Viteco Data Suite

Your shortcut to faster delivery of high quality analytics and reporting solutions at an affordable price.

What is Viteco Data Suite?

Viteco Data Suite is a set of tools used for building, documenting and managing Data Warehouse solutions as well as Business Intelligence, Data Hub and other data-oriented solutions. Viteco Data Suite enables high quality solutions to be build faster and at a lower cost. The design is focused on offering enhanced productivity as well as quality, which in this case goes hand in hand. This class of software tools is often referred to as “Data Warehouse Automation”.

Viteco Data Suite was developed based on experience from Data Warehouse projects in large companies in the financial sector, pharmaceutical devices and wholesale businesses. We have automated elements in the development characterized by being time consuming, rather standardized and error prone. These processes are generic technical processes with no real need for customization. The modules are 100% metadata driven completely without any coding – just definition of the necessary metadata.

What does Viteco Data Suite contain?

The Data Suite contains 9 different important elements

The Extract module is the first step of the data processing, and moves data into the data platform. This is done in order to:

  • Offload the processing from the production system
  • Move the data on to a platform optimized for analytical processing rather than transactional processing, thus increasing price/performance ratio
  • First step in establishing a pure data oriented system of reference

The Extract-module is 100% metadata controlled. Based on connection information and a list of tables or the like you need to extract, data is transferred in batches as defined by you.

Extract support the following sources: JDBC (typically relational databases), REST services, http, CSV-files, XML-files and Viteco Master Data.

Multisource adds more that 90 new JDBC type sources such as Salesforce and Shopify, exposing them as standard JDBC sources, thus making the extract from them as simple as a traditional relational database.

Multisource gives you the following benefits:

  • Save time to develop and maintain specific extracts against the 90+ applications exposed by Multisource
  • Full MetadataGenerator support for non-relational sources saves further time and reduce needed competency

See Viteco Data Suite User Guide for a complete list of the supported and tested sources supported by Multisource.

Get full history on your data. Many operational systems only track historic changes on part of the data, often leaving out master data, that are crucial in reporting and analytics. The Historic module fixes this shortcoming without any need for coding.

  • Track full history on all data
  • Time-line precision down to database timestamp precision
  • Metadata controlled, standardized history

The data layout of the historic data serves as a standardized basis of the further processing of data in the analytical data warehouse system.

Master Data is a web-application, designed to solve the task of handling all the bits and pieces of data or metadata usually being part of a Data Warehouse solution. When building a Data Warehouse, there is a need to handle derived data, codes that either lack labels in the source system, or new codes being added in the Data Warehouse for segments or risk evaluation and various transformation rules, that are better caught outside the code than hidden somewhere deep inside the ETL.

The application handles data in a table layout, and lets you dynamically define tables and their layouts, down to lookups and validation by means of regex.

Being a browser-based web application, it may also be used for data entry in a broader sense if you should need to get data into the solution from affiliates, departments or other, that may be geographically wide spread.

The Extract and Share modules provides functionality to load data into – i.e. for adding derived information on customers, product or other – and out of the Viteco Master Data.

Check is a module designed for automated test, reconciliation and data checks in general. Check lets you define rules that data has to comply with, as well as a number of standardized tests related to the data processing usually found in a data warehouse.

The test are build and repeatedly run during the development phase, and often a subset of the test are carried over to production and used as data quality gates in the production batch flow, ensuring a well defined quality of data in the production environment.

Data from a Data Warehouse is increasingly being integrated back into the transactional environment, and the Share module is a metadata-controlled facility to move data from the analytical database to some other system.

One of the use cases is loading data into Viteco Master Data, in order to make new data available for further enhancement, thereby eliminating errors in entry of the initial key data.

Metadata Generator is a service module, that reads metadata from source systems in order to enhance productivity when using Viteco Data Suite. When using the Metadata Generator, only the most basic data must be entered, and the module adds the remaining metadata automatically. Typically up to 80% of the work is saved in this way.
Documentation is often produced as an afterthought and considered a necessary evil by many developers, filling out endless documents containing page after page with strategic and architectural fit, knowing it will never be opened and much less used ever by anyone.

Coming from the real world we have put together an approach to documentation that differ markedly from the above. During the development, all – or at least most – of the information needed in the documentation is present, since you need it in order to build the solution in the first place.

We put this information into a wiki-structure, that supports a general approach to developing Data Warehouse solutions. So instead of writing the information into a notepad or on a post-it, just put it into the wiki, and over time it will be complete. As part of the retrospective or user acceptance, the documentation may be reviewed and missing or out of date parts updated.

The same documentation serves for the developers and the users – mainly the more advanced analytical users, who need to know exactly what data they have at hand. This raise the quality considerably, simply because the documentation is actively used and tested ongoing.

Drive is our chosen name for the operational support we offer. It is part of our promise to make it easy to use data, so that you do not need to bother whether data is updated or some batch job stopped. It should be as easy as driving a car.

Beyond the basic operational support we offer support on an individual basis tailored to your specific needs. Get in touch for more information.

Viteco Data Suite comes in three flavors

Startup

Entry level package, targeted towards smaller organizations or organizations starting up on Business Intelligence. Get the architecture right from the start without spending too much time figuring out how to get in motion. Startup lets you extract data from up to 50 source tables, typically enough to get you going for your first one or two reporting applications. The architecture and toolset is fully scalable to the Enterprise edition.

Advanced

For the organization well on the way with their Business Intelligencse implementation, in need for more robust and reliable data. Simplifying the management and further development of the solution as well as simply saving money often justifies the Advanced edition. The advanced edition lets you work with up to 500 tables.

Many of our clients stay with the Advanced edition to support their Business Intelligence initiative.

Enterprise

The Enterprise edition is unlimited and incorporates all modules available in Viteco Data Suite. It scales to as many source tables as needed as well as umlimited users of Master Data.
